Single Address Ticket can be used by a homeowner or contractor to request to have utility lines marked at a single address. The form is designed for simple requests ONLY and should NOT be used for multiple addresses or intersections. Design/Survey and Emergency tickets may not be processed through this program.

To use this program you must adhere to all of the following:

  • The party doing the actual excavation (Homeowner or Contractor) must create a locate request in their name. The exact address of the property must be provided and posted. No intersections, lot numbers or extended dig areas are accepted. Intersection requests and requests to extend markings beyond the address boundaries may be aborted without notice.
  • A valid e-mail address must be provided. North Carolina 811, Inc. will send you a copy of the locate request when it has been processed and sent to the member utility companies.
  • Your request is not valid until you receive the locate request number which will be delivered to you by e-mail from automated@nc811.org. Ensure that you can receive email from this address and that it isn't delivered into your junk/spam folder. Please do not reply to the confirmation message.
  • Requests received by North Carolina 811, Inc. after 4:00 p.m. may not be processed until the next business day.
  • Markings should be completed by the utility companies and/or their contract locators within three (3) business days after you receive a copy of your locate request by e-mail.
  • The area to be marked must be accessible (free from animals and locked gates) for three (3) business days from the date you receive your location request by e-mail.
  • Excavation sites that require additional marking instructions must be processed by calling 811 or using other web applications after training has been completed - click here to find out more.
  • If you cannot comply with all of these requirements, please call 811 to process your request by telephone.
  • If your request does not meet all of these requirements, it may be aborted without notice.

The contacted facility members shall identify their lines in either water soluble paint or flags in accordance with the American Public Works Association Uniform Color Code as follows: Electric Power Lines, Cables, Conduit and Lighting Cables are red; Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroleum or Gaseous Materials are yellow; Communication, Cable TV, Alarm or Signal Lines, Cables or Conduit are orange, Potable Water is blue, Sewer or Drain Lines are green and Reclaimed Water, Irrigation and Slurry Lines are purple. Please be aware that some facility members may indicate via telephone, fax, or email that their facilities are clear or that a representative needs to be on-site during excavation.

Water, sewer and storm drain lines are marked within the right of way or to the meter, and not on private property. Lines from the right of way or meter to the residence or business are private lines and you will need to contact a private line locator to have these lines located. You must contact any non-member facility owners not listed on your location request directly to request their facilities to be located and marked.

The width of the location tolerance zone includes 24 inches on each side of the utility plus the width of the utility itself. If you must dig within the tolerance zone, digging with caution by hand is recommended to help reduce the possibility of damage to the located utility. If a damage occurs, you will need to notify the facility owner directly, and you can dial 811 to enter a report of damage to underground facilities. In the event of a gas product release, please quickly and safely move up wind and dial 911 to report.
